Legends of The Black Panther Party: Kathleen Cleaver

Kathleen Cleaver was a force to be reckoned with in The Black Panther Party. She moved to San Francisco, California, in November 1967, to join the Black Panther Party and married Eldridge in December that same year. She became the Communications Secretary and the first female member of the Party's decision-making body, the Central Committee. She strongly believed in an armed response to COINTELPRO action against The Black Panther Party. She divorced Eldridge in 1987, then earned a law degree at Yale Law School. Since then, Kathleen has held multiple professorships and also worked as a law clerk in the U.S. Court of Appeals. She is currently a senior lecturer at the Emory University School of Law.
